McLain's Bakery

I can't say much that has not been said about McLain's. Great coffee, perfect pastry, and an old school location that is like visiting an lifelong friend! One of KC's finest cinnamon rolls and hand-sized cookies that will quell the most ferocious sweet tooth cravings. A great place to meet or share a few moments with special folks. Go, because you should!

We hired McLain's as our wedding cake vendor and could not be more pleased with the experience. We ended up getting a 5-layer cake (and 5 FLAVORS!!) which was one of my favorite pieces of our wedding. We also did the to-go tasting option which was so fun and helpful for choosing the flavors (did I mention we had 5!!) Their team was communicative, answered all my questions, and made the day-of process easy and seamless. Also LOVE that you get to order a cake on your 1-year anniversary.

McLain’s Bakery is a staple that I visit every time I’m in Kansas City. The food is always fresh, and the overall vibe makes it a great spot for breakfast, a quick bite, or even to hang out and get some work done. The coffee is solid, the pastries are delicious, and the atmosphere is consistently welcoming. I’ll definitely keep coming back and always recommend it.

Love this spot. They do great breakfast snacks, I usually order the homemade biscuits and gravy and they are so fluffy and yummy and the white gravy isn’t too salty or peppery which I like. The breakfast burrito is a good size and well balanced. The avocado toast is a fave although it is an avocado blend spread rather than fresh plan avocados. The salmon toast is also a fave, the capers are sort of dried and crunchy (but still caper flavor) the coffee comes separately to your food you have to get up and get that but it’s a lovely space to sit and eat and there is an outside spot for you to bring your dogs or just enjoy the sunshine. There is also an outside window to order your food/coffee as no dogs are allowed inside - even just to order. Love this spot.

I love a good bakery and McLain's had some pretty amazing choices with equally great prices, too. The retail section had so many cute holiday-themes goodies. I got a chocolate croissant to pair with my coffee and it was the best start to my morning.

Recently purchased a custom cake order for my sisters baby shower. Wonderful experience; went back and forth via email on the design (to match the invite we sent), the flavors (did half one flavor, half another) and pick-up date time. They also gave me tips on driving 1.5 hours with it, to ensure it was good to go upon arrival to the venue. Even the staff ooh'd and aah'd over it as I was leaving. Evidence of the taste - 2 small pieces left at the end of the shower! Thanks McClains! Love living by the OG location and getting to experience you weekly, but you went up and above for the cake!!

The pastries. The cookies. The coffee. Excellent! The space is great just a little chilly. But this is a gem in KC. And the Girl Breakfast is the best of all the good things to eat for all genders!
